He graduated college with a degree in photography and film,  from the school of visual arts in Newyork. Harris Savides lived in Manhattan and sadly had his life cut short due to brain cancer, at the age of 55, too young.

Harris’s work

Harris had been the cinematographer on a number of famous music videos such as Michael Jackson’s - Scream, Madonna’s Rain and more such as R.E.M.’s Everybody Hurts.

Harris was also the director of photography on a short film directed by Wong Kar for the car company BMW.

Harris’s first solo job as a cinematographer was on the thriller, Haven’s Prisoners in 1996. Before this film, Harris served as a cinematographer on a TV short film called the Investigator in 1994.

Harris was also the cinematographer on two films directed by Sofia Coppola and six more for other various directors.

Harris is known for the very delicate images that he created for the Film called The Yards. He did this by underexposing the film stock by several f stops (e.g. f.8. down to f.1.) in order to break up the colours and give the blacks a purple / brownish look. This non- ordinary approach lead to a look that relates to the painting of

Georges De La Tour and Caravaggio.

Films he worked on

Lake Consequence (1992)

The Game (1997)

Gerry (2002)

Birth (2004)

Greenberg (2010)

The Bling Ring (2013)

And many more.
