Stephan Pehrsson

BBorn: November 10th, 1975 in Denmark

Known for: his work on black mirror (A Netflix series)

Stephan Pehrsson is a cinematographer, who was almost a nobody before he shot the Netflix series Black Mirror. He has Since gone on to film the TV series:

Luther

The Musketeers

Haunted

Heat

However, the reason Stephan was chosen for head of photography in Black Mirror, was because of his work filming Doctor Who, which he received very little recognition for filming,  as the show has become obsolete to the new shows streamed on the internet.  Although I am not saying not many people watch it,

however,  it is not very accessible.

Though his shots were similar to the ones that are in Black Mirror, which is a mild horror and thriller about the future of computers and technology.

His shots are mainly of people in Doctor Who, however in Black Mirror, the directors left him to his own devices to film the landscape cinematic scenes, in his own way. The output of his background knowledge of lighting and framing was outstanding and the final pieces are mind blowing professional.

Below are some screenshots of his work in Doctor Who:

You can see in these photos that Stephan Pehrsson is a Professional at framing faces and few landscapes. He uses camera angles that are both found in modern thrillers and modern horrors.  These combined make a highly unique look, and so below is Pehrsson’s work for Black Mirror.   You can spot similarities in angles and the type of cinematic framing straight away in the sense of Bokeh and his landscape shots as well.

Stephan Pehrsson has not yet won any awards,   but I think he has a great future ahead of him.
