Troy Paiva

Troy Paiva is an artist living in the San Francisco Bay area. His whole adult life has been dedicated to exploring and photographing out of place objects, crashed cars, planes and in most of his work he has used a long shutter speed and a long aperture, usually around 3 minutes.

He creates the colours that you can see on his images by using LED back lighting from simple colour changing lights, these lights are relatively inexpensive and can be bought practically anywhere.

How Troy Takes Photos:

Troy manages to get all his photos by sneaking into derelict  'Mental Hospitals' and Aircraft Graveyards to do light painted night photography. He managed to take amazing photos. It almost looks like this is what the world would look like after an apocalypse!

The way that he uses the aperture on his camera is quite amazing,  the red and green that you can actually see in the background are actually really dim to the naked eye and the brightness of the image is achieved via a long aperture, in this particular image 2 minutes.  In the gallery below there are other images that he has taken in the dead of night.
