My name is Charlie Derham, and this is my media backstory. I live in North Somerset, within a little settlement near Bristol.

I started my photography and getting into videography in 2015.  It all started with an idea I had. I thought it would be good to drown my iPod touch 4th generation in a pond in my school, and the video received 200 views!

At this point, I thought, "oh, I think I should do videos that are crazy". So I came back a few months later with a video of myself and a friend doing ski jumps, my friend Jack fell over and I practically hit someone in the head passing by (video below).

Later in April 2015,  I upgraded my old phone (a Galaxy s3 mini) to a Galaxy s6 32gb.

The phone at this time had the best camera specifications, a 16mp OIS lens with an aperture of f2.8. It also filmed in 4K video which no other phone could do at that time.

With my purchase of the S6, I filmed my first ever video. However, I never used the footage, because, at the time, I did not have a computer to edit on, so I was using iMovie on my iPad for some time.

Two months later, I had stopped producing youtube videos as my shed building at home was my main priority.

The Shed! was a treehouse built for me when I was only 7. At the age of 13, I decided I wanted to be able to have my friends around and use The Shed to party.

At the time, I did not realise how hard this would be especially with my lack of experience in building.

Two weeks after I had started the build,  in the summer of 2015, well,  it all collapsed right on my head.  Meanwhile, my cousin George, who was meant to be helping me, was playing Minecraft on our family PC.

However, four weeks later I was finished,  I had dug

1-foot  deep foundations installed a floor made of pallets, cladding the walls, made a roof and a plywood interior.

The reason for this being on my art website is that building my first shed inspired me to extend it, which inspired me to put a magnificent pitched roof on it. This also inspired me to design and build my third and final shed which was built back in the summer of 2016, (see the picture below).

After I had finished my shed, I made small improvements, like decorating and furnishing it. However, it is infrequently used at this time because of the intense weather, and the lack of electricity flowing towards it.

I am currently studying a filmmaking degree at Screenology University in Bristol, I am creating new projects more frequently than ever and I love it! I believe that I am learning so much, this is improving my ability to not only film but direct, produce, research and my English.
