In this section of my blog i will be talking about how to get the best results in a pitch-black or badly lit environment.
First off taking photos in bad lighting on a mobile phone:
First of all this stunt is extremely hard to do with a phone without OIS if you are holding the phone in your hand. OIS (optical image stabilisation) helps keep your camera steady by using a gyroscope to stabilise the camera with hardware, this technology is found on most flagship phones such as iPhone 6s onwards (2015 -) and galaxy s5 onwards (2013 -) and also most camera lenses. However OIS is not just for low light environment it can be helpful in full daylight by reducing the chance of blurry photos. Video recording can also benefit from this amazing technology.
Enough about OIS and more on camera setting for low light on mobile, on most phones there is a mode in the camera called pro mode or professional (not found on i phones) when you are in this setting play around with the shutter speed and aim for a long shutter speed not a rapid one, to let more light in which is needed. When you have the shutter speed on about 1 second make sure you use a tripod for your phone or you will definitely find blue and light streaks in the photo that you are taking. Make sure the phone is in a tripod, clamped in and then take the photo. The shutter speed should be anywhere from half a second all the way up to as high as your phone allows the shutter to open at a time. The higher the shutter speed the more light enters the lens, extremely useful for these pitch black shots. If there is a setting make sure to shoot in RAW format and you can apply colour to the photo as you wish, in your photo editor of choice. That is all for mobile phone dark environment photography now to DSLR and miracles camera body.
In almost all conditions most serious users of cameras will use manual mode mainly in the mode shutter speed or aperture, today we are talking about shutter speed (S).
these pictures below show where the menus are and the mode.

This is how you change the shutter speed on a DSLR and mirror less camera, everything else about how the setting works is in the paragraph above the photos.
