Sunday Filming Evaluation
Today we have only to film in Wrington, so getting to the two last locations was easy, everyone arrived at mine on time, we then made a 10 min walk to my father’s cottage, where we needed to set up some party banners and tidy the scene, we also needed to set up the bedroom where we were going to be recording the shot of Ellena getting woken up by Kes. After all the scenes were set up we captured several establishing shots of the cottage using both the drone and the GH4, then after this we move inside and captured several more shots of the party banners, presents we had wrapped especially for Ellena to unwrap, as well as some cups of tea we had in shots to make the party seem quite warm and cosy. All these shots were perfect in Kes and I’s opinion. We then moved onto getting the audio of happy birthday, sung by the family of four, that were present in the room, though on further inspection we should have turned off a light that was above my Dad and his partner as it ruined the colour consistency and will be really hard to edit out, this was probably one of our only big mistakes of the film as the colours were really way off. After this scene Ellena arrived, we got her to sit in a chair open presents open cards and say thanks to her parents for the presents that we had wrapped earlier in the morning, I was really happy with this shot of Ellena opening the presents it was shot on the fluid head tripod and it was just a slow pan upwards, I thought it was really quite effective. Then we shot Ellena opening the rough letter from this mysterious character, after it arrives from the mailman which was just a friend of mine wearing a red jacket like mailmen usually do. It was then picked up by my Dad and brought to Ellena, we shot this with the Steadicam and a tripod using both cameras (42.5mm lens on the tripod 12mm on the Steadicam). After we captured a good take of this scene we switched to an overhead handheld of Ellena opening the letter with the 12-35mm lens, I had it set at 16mm for a slightly cropped feel. This shot was successful, so we progressed onto the next scene.
The next scene we were filming in the cottage, was Ellena waking up in the morning to Kes bringing her a cup of tea, for this shot we had the 42.5mm camera in one corner of the room and myself with the Steadicam positioned in the other, I followed Kes round the room putting the tea on the table whereas the other camera was focused on Ellena shooting up from her sleep to the knocking on the door and showing confusion on her face. These shots were well captured by us and I was happy with the result.
In the last scene, we had to pack up all the equipment we needed and walk for five mins to the barn in the middle of the field, which conveniently is located right next to my Dad’s house. When we arrived at the location the first thing we did was hang up the blue box inside the barn, after this we set up the drone and firstly captured Ellena running across the field towards the barn, we then did a handheld version of exactly the same route where I followed Ellena from behind with the Steadicam, we then captured our last action shot which was a low angle of Ellena running around the little pond using the 42.5mm lens, after this shot we captured audio of Ellena running through the field to use in editing using the same technique we used yesterday getting Ellena to run with the camera pointing downwards so the rode microphone could pick up the sounds of her running through the grass.
After capturing the last set of shots there was a bit of drizzle and so we all took shelter inside of the barn until the bad weather passed and it was sunny again. After this we captured shots from many angles of Ellena walking into the barn and holding the box, we managed to capture some really creative shots, my favourite out of the whole shoot so far, being the camera focused on the box on a tripod inside (42.5mm lens) and getting Ellena to open the barn door from the outside, I really liked the height of the tripod as well as the calmness of the shot contrasting the rest of the scene. Other shots included over the shoulder shots, mid shots and close ups of the box itself. Then that was it filming was completed, I was extremely happy with the work we had produced and the fact we had kept to schedule, finishing dead on at 1500 time to watch the rugby! A truly awesome day, now all we have to do is edit.
