PEGI 7:

PEGI 12:

This category contains games that show the violence of a slightly more graphic nature compared to PEGI 3, it contains more non-realistic violence towards human-like characters. Also, sexual innuendo or sexual posturing can be present, all the language spoken in this category must be mild. Gambling scenes can also be present for example a game that in real life would be played for money e.g. card games.

PEGI 16:

This rating is used once the description of violence or sexual nudity reached a stage that it would be similar looking to a real-life scenario. The use of foul language in this category of games can be more extreme. Games of chance and the use of tobacco, alcohol or illegal drugs can also be present.

PEGI 18:

The PEGI 18 rating is used once the description of violence (or sexual activity) reaches a stage that the looks and the same physics of violence would be expected in a real-life situation. The use of bad language in this category can be more extreme, while games of chance and the use of tobacco, alcohol or illegal drugs can also be present.

PEGI also put symbols on games to allow the parents who would be looking at the rating what category of .... Is occurring this can include drugs, fear, discrimination, sex and others above.

The ratings are mainly for the children's parents so that they can see what sort of game the child wants to buy.
