Editing a short advertisement.

Reflection on editing tutorial in today’s workshop: editing a short advertisement.

Firstly, I had to download the clips from the server onto my portable SSD, which in theory sounds easy but in reality, was not. The issue was that I had a password on the drive and the mac would not run the software to unlock the device, so I spent 10 minuets trying to figure out how to take the password off of my drive and was eventually successful after trial and error. So, for the future when I need to do this again it will take no time at all.

So, I began editing off of the portable SSD, footage all was good and in premier pro, settings were correct, so I settled down and began to edit. I firstly found some suitable non-copyrighted music off of YouTube, downloaded it then slapped it onto the timeline ready for the editing.

I then had a scrub through the footage to get and idea of what I was editing and began to put some clips into the timeline. Soon after I began it became apparent to Laura and I that this commercial was going to be more funny than factual. I began to look at some transitions that would fit the smooth style Laura and I were going for. We played around editing to the beat of the music making sure to include the additional footage throughout the interviews so that they flowed more smoothly fit in with the comedy style advert we were going for, which included an annoying beat that would stick in someone’s mind and actually make them want to come to the store.

On the whole I was happy to learn more of premier pro and more features that it has to offer compared to Vegas, however, the main benefit compared to Vegas so far is the timeline performance and also the rendering speeds. I also thought our final advert came out rather funny and creative.

Below is some screenshots of the timeline, as I am not allowed to publish the footage for privacy reasons.
