Tag Lines Tag lines are creative, enticing short phrases used for marketing purposes. They are used to sell the film at a short glance and interest people into looking in to the film. They appear on the movie posters. Examples of tag lines:

Alien (1979): In space, no one can hear you scream. Chicken Run (2000): Escape, or die frying. Log Lines Log lines are a brief summary of the movie, it contains the central conflict of the premise, an introduction to main characters and an emotional hook to make viewers interested; consisting of between 25/30 words. It's the short Synopsis that you would usually find on the TV guide.

Examples of Log-lines Pulp Fiction: The lives of two mob hit men, a boxer, a gangster's wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption.

Forest Gump: Forrest Gump, while not intelligent, has accidentally been present at many historic moments, but his true love, Jenny Curran, eludes him.

Titles

There are 3 types of titles. Direct, Catchy and Poetic. Direct titles are straight to the point and usually give quite a bit of insight in to what the film is about

Some examples are:

The God Father The Grand Budapest Hotel Jaws Catchy titles are memorable and can be a play on words to interest the viewer. Some examples are: Now you see me Braveheart Poetic titles are based on the beauty of words and how they are married together, they don't often give any insight into the film but are intriguing because of how 'poetic' they are. Some examples are: Lost in Translation Moonrise Kingdom Gone with the wind

Charlie Derham:

After these lessons on the tag lines log lines and also titling i have learnt a lot. They play a vital role in the marketing of a film / series as they are the headline on the side of a bus for example, they dictate what an average consumer may think of the film and if the title and tag lines are good and well researched they may bring in a bigger audience for example for the film Alita: Battle Angel in their log line they are putting in proudly "James Cameron (AVATAR)" This signifies quality to the consumer and this may intrigue them to find out more about the film. As well as this they use the tag line "An Angel Falls. A Warrior Rises." this clearly implies this film contains action, as well as the fact there could also be some beauty in the word 'angel'.

On the whole though I really do believe tag lines, log lines and titles play a really important role in the marketing of a film, as well as the research that Taryn has conducted we hope our research proves our points.
