Treatment
(Edited new version)
We will be shooting our trailer out of order; however, we will put all the clips into the right order during editing week, however, here is how our film trailer should start.
Straight off the bat, we will use an establishing a shot of a cottage and add our title where the clouds are, then we will cut to the inside of the house where there will be a family party set, we will use the slider to create smooth but also a weird feeling. After this where the camera will come from an out of focus plant to a likely party immediately emerging our viewer with a big scene, we will then cut to our actor Ellena opening some presents (all of this will be shorter than 10 secs footage). After this, we will have some close-ups of the rest of the family at the meal then cut to a postman knocking at the door and slipping an envelope through. All of the shots will be handheld, and should be smooth with the GH4’s OIS which should counter any judders when we are filming, after the letter dropping through the other side of the door, we will cut to Ellena’s ‘Dad’ picking it up and giving it to her saying “this just came through for you darling must be from your Auntie”, then cut back to a close up of her opening it, then a close up of the word death on the letter, then cut to some locations of box’s that flash up on the scene while Ellena’s voiceover reading the letter narrates some of the challenge’s she will face and the consequences if she fails.
These shots will be filmed in 6 different locations, starting with Backwell (a box location (underwater). We will film our actor running down some steps, we will capture a high angle to signify doubt, then we will cut to her running along the water's edge then the cold water then back to her running to jump in the water. We will use the drone tripod and steady cam for these shots, the drone for overhead shots and our actor running along the waters edge so it looks like we are using a crane but it’s actually a drone, We will then make it seem as if Ellena’s jumped into the water, cut to a shot of a boy in the calm water then next quickly after a shot of Kes trying to pull it out but we will only frame up the boy, so it looks like its Ellena pulling up the boy with a box tied onto the bottom of it. Then we cut where Ellena is sat and staring at her watch and she’s too late, someone is dead.
(All clips are out of order, so we do not ruin the film)
We shall then speed up the pace and cut back to a shot of Ellena waking up from a night’s sleep then her boyfriend Sam comes into wake her up, it's her birthday, we film these shots using a steady cam and natural light coming in through the bedroom window and quickly change from a mid-shot of Ellena waking up from sleep, to a close up of Sam’s (her boyfriend) face opening her door. As soon as we get a close up of Ellena showing confusion on her face (using a close up), we will straight away cut to more dramatic scenes of our 2nd location, a cabin in the middle of the woods. We will establish the location with a drone shot of her walking to the location and the drone facing downwards, after this we cut to the cabin where all the lights inside are turned off, then cut to the box that we will film a slider shot of.
In the next set we will have our actor Sam lay face down flat in a swimming pool with all the LED’s turned to red, though the red LED’s are meant to signify the death than be actual blood, this shot will be captured with our drone, we will also capture some close-ups with our GH4’s of his body to create suspense and to make it more confusing for the viewer (he dies as Ellena did not complete the first challenge in time but we will not reveal this). We will use close-ups with an aperture of f1.7 for maximum bokeh and the best low light performance as the GH4 has a small sensor. We may also need to use noise reduction in the post.
In the next shot, we will be filming at the old Backwell BT radio station, it is here where we will capture some outstanding cinematography. We have a hallway that we have photographed that we are going to clear, after this we will run Charlie’s dolly down it with a tripod on top and a GH4, on top we will try and go for a warp shot but a dolly shot will do if we can’t pull off a warp shot. Our actor will be walking in front of the dolly making it seem as if someone is following her, there is also another room in this location, where I want to capture another dolly shot of our actor walking through some doors, we also have found a place where we can climb up some stairs and get this shot with our GH4 looking down at our actor walking into one of the buildings, also making it seem as if someone is watching her. We also need to capture some drone establishing shots as well as some shots of the fluid head tripod panning up some of the doors and some steady cam shots of our actor looking around the building for a safe. Wherein one shot, I will have the safe in focus close to the camera and Ellena searching for it in the background adding some more creepiness and suspense to the film trailer.
We should also capture some shots of the gates into the location and a close up of the location name. We should fly over the whole location with the drone, for an establishing shot, we will also film in the day to confuse the average horror/thriller viewer as typical thriller and horror films are shot in the dark.
With our next location, a barn in the middle of a field we will capture an establishing drone shot of Ellena walking towards this barn in the middle of nowhere, then cut to a mid-shot of her walking towards it. Then film some close-ups of a box, also some more shots of Ellena panicking and rapidly trying to find it. using a mixture of the Steadicam and drone.
For audio we will use a Rode Video Mic - Pro Plus as our primary mic and a Rode Video Mic Go, for our backup, we will also use two GH4’s when shooting to have two angles and a 42.5mm f1.7 look with bokeh and our 12.35 mil lens with an aperture of f2.8 with a flat picture profile.
All the clips will be combined in editing to make a really good storyline with music sound effects and a voice over of Ellena reading the main letter and little notes that she will find in the boxes.
THEN we will end the trailer with the man behind the killings and the boxes with a lit background and a dark figure with a #wheresthebox coming up after.
That should be all.
