Day One Reflections

Today was the brief of our next project also the FMP. I have been teamed up with a very diverse group, Kasha Wheat, Bence Sandor and Archie Settle. We all have our strengths from what I have heard about everyone in the past, this is good news, as it will help us to get our job roles sorted almost straight away with Bence being an editor, Archie as a director, kasha as a producer and me as the cameraman.

So, what were our first ideas?

The first idea was one created be Kasha and developed by Archie; the song choice would be Money by Pink Floyd; their approach was right but needed some developing. The plan was to start the video with three old men sat around a table in an old house with a fireplace, one of then gets up and places the Pink Floyd record on the player and then the video cuts to a series of robbery’s that the men had committed in their past (late teens), for this idea we would need to find at least 3 different locations where we could undertake a robbery one for the old house and one for a record shop where we buy the record during the cash sound at the start of the music video. To capture the audience’s attention, we have close-ups of money during the beginning of the song in a quick sequence that goes along with the beat of the song. However, to complete this project, as it would be an era piece we would need to also source old clothes props and locations, like some old factory’s where my mother’s business used to be located. So, in a short conclusion, I believe this idea has some strong depth to it, so we have the potential to make a great piece.

The next idea was one of my own where we would make a music video for the currently unreleased John Newman song, Feelings. I wanted to make a video on this song as I know what the songs about which is not being able to please your partner and not feeling the right emotions, I can relate to this song as I had the same problem with my ex. I wanted to make a video showcasing these emotions only using 2 main actors and show a series of not necessarily arguments, but weird feelings, I don’t know how I would explain the feelings on video, however what we could have done is had good feelings shot on a bright beach and the dark feelings shot in an abandoned factory, that is still felled with equipment, photos will be uploaded on recce day where we scout out various locations for either idea. Though back to my idea, I think if we did choose to shoot this idea, which I think the other approach is better and would be more fun, but mine would be a completely different style, smoother, sleeker and there would also be less chance of things going wrong with my idea as we would only really need 2 actors and 2 locations, but I’m up for the challenge, and I am ready to tackle the Pink Floyd idea, and I am pretty sure this is the one we are going for.

The other idea was a car chase from Archie which would have been cool and a fun project but, neither Archie or I know many tricks and we do not have nice cars, so for this we would have needed 2 vehicles and 2 drivers, who would be willing to race them, on say, Weston beach or around Bristol airport. Also, for this idea, it could be hazardous, and we were not willing to take the risk of someone getting possibly hurt in an accident.

So that’s all I’ve got from day one I will do another blog post soon with the idea we have chosen as well as some development on the concept we have chosen.
