Information About Our music Video
In this blog, I will be going into more detail about the information I have researched over the last few weeks and where it is applicable in our music video. I will also write how we will make such techniques work, as well as more on our video style and meaning. There are six main topics I want to write about today. Hopefully, this is an accurate reflection on what our music video will represent.
Performance style
The Music video will be a Narrative story where two senior men who our brothers are reminiscing about their teenage years, where it flashbacks to the 70s, a blast from the past where the younger versions of themselves come into the story, showing their deviant life where they committed crimes such as robbery and Petty theft.
Genre
The Genre of the original Pink Floyd music video ‘Money’ is progressive/art rock, our music video will develop on this and will hold the same genre, it will be a progressive music video bringing up current issues of today in a format that suits that past. It is our way of getting the issues across to our audience without being boring and suiting the style of the 70s. We will also try to capture the audience’s emotions to spread awareness, such as dementia.
Pace
The performance style for our video will be upbeat in places and slow in others. I will walk through our plans now; The video will begin with some wide establishing shots, these will most likely be slow 3-4 second shots, they will be well lit with tungsten lights and reveal our senior characters are talking around a table, these shots will last approximately 10 seconds. After this the pace will pick up and reveal the story behind the video, these shots will be cuts of past events in the 70s, there will then be a transition to the two senior actors that were sat around the table in their teens in the 70s. The pace will then slow down as we play through a variety of past events that took place when the two brothers were younger, these scenes will include three robberies’ a graffiti scene as well as two scenes where the brothers will purely be messing around making fires up the woods as well as jumping into rivers. For the most part, the speed will be the same, leisurely so to say; I think the shots we are going for will be smooth and cinematic. However, I want to add some purposeful hand-held movement in certain scenes like the robbery and the Morgan heist scene, to make the viewers feel more on edge. So, these scenes may even feel a bit more agile.
Context
The Context to our music video will be the corporate monopoly scandals of the 70s; we include this into the song as it is what the original song is based upon. However, we are building upon this context to provide a more transparent image to a modern viewer as to what these issues were, to do this we will make the use of archived footage that we will include throughout the video.
In summary, we want to show how the more prominent businesses were bullying the smaller sized one’s, forcing them out of business; this is called an anti-competitive practice and is highly illegal. This is what the original song was based upon.
Deeper meanings
The Deeper meanings to the video will be the aspect of dementia at the end of the video and the close-ups of forget me not flowers which are the national flower for dementia, these flowers placed on the table at the end of the music video, when we show one of the senior men has actually passed away. To show this death, we will show a polaroid imaged dated when the younger brother had died, this will be the last image of the music video and hopefully it will pass on emotion with the audience.
Purpose of the video
There is a simple purpose for our music video; it is short, sweet and simple. We wish to make people more aware of the corporate business monopoly of the 70s, as well as shine a light on dementia; although these purposes do not make sense when put together, they will, in the narrative style of video we plan to share.
Thanks for reading.
