18th Of May Reflections – Editing Complete

This last week has gone fast for our whole group; we started on Monday, where we devoted the entire day to editing and working on our pre-production folder.

Kasha and Archie were working on the folder and Bence and I on the edit, making final changes, like doing all the colour correction and snipping down clips to make some shorter, this was because when we had focus groups with Dan, Gina and Mel, they all suggested some changes that we should make. Dan suggested we changed the spray paint scene, more in detail where Joel, bends down to pick up something then, we should cut to Archie spraying the red paint over the camera. Gina suggested that we added the dementia helpline at the end of the music video and told us that we would need no other credits. However, when we asked Mel to have a look at the film, she suggested the start should be slightly longer (where Terry and Paul were talking). We listened to Mel and made the beginning a little longer, Mel also said (as well as all the other teachers) that the story was evident and there would be no misunderstanding what the music video is about. There was one thing from Dan though; he picked up that during the drug taking scene, he got a bit lost for around 20 seconds. We decided as a group to make no changes as we explained to Dan, the reason he may have experienced this lack of interest, was because the song dips speed of for a short amount of time. We asked Gina and Mel about this segment of the song, and they didn’t see any problem, so, no changes were made. When Bence and I were colour correcting we tweaked the colours a little to make the fire scenes greener, because they were initially really red, and we didn’t think the original tone was cinematic enough and could take the viewer away from the immersion of the film.

After our focus groups and we had finished all our changes, we then had showcased our film to a range of year two students who were knocked breathless, which I thought was pretty funny. I asked the year 2 students if we should make any changes and one spotted, that where Paul fades away at the very end of the song, there was a difference in colour temperature between the shot where Paul was gone, and when Paul was there, so we sat back down and Bence, and I got the colours as close to each other as possible. The other final change we made was to craft our titling for the end of the song; Kasha did this on the Photoshop software, the outcome was brilliant and after feedback from Bence and I, we finished the Final Title She made for the end of the Video:

Other than this, I will not go into too much detail about the post-production evaluation as that will be in its blog.

In other news, our pre-production folder was handed in well on time with changes made to it regarding the budget, mistakes and finishing off the song script, as well as to correct the spelling of our actor's names, which were spelt wrong on one of the proposal pages. That was it for the folder. We handed it in well on time, and with no stress at all, again I will reflect on the whole pre-production in my pre-production evaluation where I will go over how I found the actors, locations and our use of props.

Finally, other stuff I have been up to, on Friday Chris (the technician) and I set up the projector for level 2 screenings as well as our screening on the following day (the 22nd May), we did this as the projector in our last screening was way to dim, and the colours were also quite off. Chris and I corrected the projectors settings which took about 6 hours, just tweaking the settings both on the projector and on the Mac, meanwhile we were talking about cool camera equipment that the college could buy in like, the Probe macro lens that I have seen all over YouTube recently, including on MKBHD’s channel and The Slow Mo Guys. So, I ended up enjoying Friday quite a bit!

Finally, the last thing I would like to talk about is when Dan evaluated my website, he could not find any faults, and I seemed on track with only my evaluations left to write. I found one error; however, on my Job Roles page, I had not mentioned Bence’s Role, which I need to write now after I finish this update!

I think this is it though; we uploaded our film to the shared drive on Wednesday the 15th May, after checking through it many times before we chose to upload it finally, now all we need to do is wait until screening day and maybe reflect, like I'm doing now in my website!
