Filming Day 3

Filming day three was organised by Jed and I, to travel once again to Mill Meadow in the effort of capturing some indoor shots of the lodges, as well as some video footage of the local pub, called The Swan. I tried to get as many of us to Mill Meadow as possible, however, Jed was the only one willing to go. We meet at Mc Donald’s in Worle at 0900, had some breakfast then drove to Mill Meadow; fortunately, there was not much traffic, and we were there by 1000.

When we arrived, I phoned Chris and kindly asked if he could let us into one of the lodges to do some filming. Chris then let us into one of the lodges so that we could get started on filming the interior of the lodge.

The main reason for going back to Mill Meadow, was in fact to capture some footage of the local pub, however, after some feedback from one of our tutors Gina, she suggested we go back to get some indoor shots of one of the lodges, I knew we had to go back and capture this footage. I also thought it would complete the film as well, as it meant we had covered the whole Mill Meadow experience.

We started by setting up a time-lapse in the lodge’s kitchen; it was a shot looking out of one of the windows. I thought it turned out well. While the time-lapse was recording I set my other GH4 up on the Ronin and began capturing inside footage of the lodge, I started by instructing Jed to hold up one of the lights in the first bedroom we filmed, to brighten the shot up a little, I then proceeded to pan around the room with the camera, I also did a pull away from the window shot revealing the room which I also think looked really good, we then captured footage of the hallways and the master bedroom, making sure to put things back that we had moved. In the master bedroom there was a huge balcony, so I started recording outside, then work backwards through the door of the room, then pan, revealing the room while walking backwards, meanwhile Jed was holding some lights making sure the room was lit correctly for the best shot.

After we had finished filming upstairs we moved downstairs and began to shoot the kitchen and lounge area; I think we did make the mistake of filming on quite a dark dreary day, which affected the mood of the shots, something that I will be able to fix in post. The lounge shot I captured looked clean and smooth, as well as some close shots, which were of some flowers inside the lodge, which matched the aesthetics our group were aiming for.

We then wrapped up filing the inside of the lodge, packed everything away, gave the keys back to Chris then drove up to the local pub, The Swan. I only set up the single GH4 this time on the Ronin so we could be in and out and disturb as few people as possible. We avoided a busy time at the pub as then we did not have to get multiple people to fill out permission forms. We talked to the owner of the pub for a bit, then captured some exterior shots of the pub and some interior of the bar and the seating area. However, the main focus of the video will be on Mill Meadow and the grounds.

After capturing the footage at the pub Jed and I swiftly packed up and began to drive home, in the car we were talking about editing ideas and if we needed anything else? However, overall we are now clear what type of film we are creating for Chris, a short film to go on the front page of the Mill Meadow website, promoting the grounds and local things to do, like dog walking, fishing and just enjoying the surroundings, we may need to head back to Mill Meadow to capture some Dog walkers and someone Fishing though. Overall, a really good day of filming just a shame it was on my weekend off!
